Are Warhammer 40k books genuinely any good and worth reading? Does the setting as a whole compete with other settings like Hyperion, Foundation, The Culture and Dune etc?

Post image
Warhammer 40k is a franchise created by Games Workshop, detailing the far future and the grim darkness it holds. The main attraction of 40k is the miniatures, but there are also many video games, board games, books, ect. that are all connected in the 40k universe. This subreddit is for anything and everything related to Warhammer 40k.

The first four Dune novels by Frank Herbert in my opinion is the greatest story to come out of the sci-fi genre. Do you think anything reaches it’s level or surpasses it?

Science Fiction, or Speculative Fiction if you prefer. Fantasy too. Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke, Dick, Heinlein and other SF books. SF movies and TV shows. Fantasy stuff like Tolkien and Game of Thrones. Laser guns, space ships, and time travel. etc. Star Trek, Battlestar, Star Wars, etc.

Just started The Culture series by Iain M. Banks with The Player of Games and while it’s good it hasn’t quite impressed me yet despite the series being ranked amongst the best sci-fi ever. What do you think of The Culture series? Where does it rank with your favourites? Why isn’t it more mainstream?

Rogue One is the most gorgeous and beautifully made Star Wars film. When Star Wars gets it right, damn do they get it right

Unofficial community for Star Wars, an American epic space opera franchise, created by George Lucas and centered around a film series that began with the eponymous 1977 movie.
